How To Create A Talk That Inspires

how to create a talk that inspires Oct 03, 2022

Delivering a talk that motivates will inevitably make it more fun and easier to be a great leader.

The hard reality is that most leaders in the pharmaceutical industry create data-driven presentations not relevant and relatable to the audience. Gone is authenticity. Gone is the vision to create trust. In is direction. The audience starts to check their mobile devices in the hidden. They start texting their trusted peers. They start forming their own opinions and beliefs that fit their paradigm and you as the leader in charge of the transformation have failed to deliver a talk that moves people's feet in the desired direction.

A Leader’s Speaker Framework

If you want more success, you want to learn how to create a talk that gets the audience’s attention. Here are 5 tools you want to apply that will get you from a good to a great speaker and leader.

#1 What impact do you REALLY want to create?

Most leaders don't ask themselves this question. If you are on a mission to ask your employees to shift mindset, unmemorise certain traits and adopt new habit, be mindful that you want to convey information that transforms.

#2 Your key message

Your want your opening to contain a power question that you want your audience to think about. For example “how do we become the leading company in our niche?”  Wrap up your talk by circling back to the question when you close the talk.

#3 Make it relatable

Pick 1-2 stories that underpin the question you want the audience to think about and which support the key message. Pull out the key points so that your audience can relate to your message.

#4 Do you own mental preparation

If you want to make an impact and deliver a talk that transforms, it’s essential that you are mentally prepared to deliver the talk and meet the audience. Do you really own the message? Do you feel comfortable delivering the talk? Have you built a mental gap between you and your audience that you need to break down so that you come across as more authentic, trustworthy, and compassionate?

#5 Be present

All there is is now and that’s what matters if you want to make an impact that lasts.

If you apply these steps next time you prepare and deliver a talk, you will come across as a more authentic and compassionate leader. And if you want to go all in, drop your PowerPoint slides. If you know and own your message, speak from your heart. By so doing, you will create trust and win hearts even though not everyone will appreciate what you have to share.
